Have You Updated
your Subconscious Mind Lately?
Your Conscious vs. Subconscious Mind
Your conscious
mind is your short term, day to day, in-the-now awareness. Your subconscious
mind is your long term, semi-permanent behind-the-scenes programming.
Our subconscious programming is a lot like a computer program that is
write-protected. It requires a specific key to allow changes to take place
in your subconscious. If this key did not exist then our subconscious
would be flooded with many changes of programming and would lead to a
bit of internal chaos.
The
Real Problem with New Year’s Resolutions
When we try to make a New Year’s Resolution we attempt
to change our subconscious programming. We want to stop smoking. Our subconscious
mind has been imprinted with ‘I really like smoking’. Unless
we change the imprinting in the subconscious mind, becoming a non-smoker
will never happen.
How do we
make changes to our subconscious mind? We can only change our ‘write-protected’
programming if we really, really, really want to make the change. The
subconscious mind allows changes only if we are emotionally committed
to the changes. There must be empowering energy behind your decision.
We must apply the desire for change with energy, enthusiasm and emotion.
That is why losing 15 pounds, quitting smoking or starting an exercise
program because someone else asks you to probably will not work.
When we are
children it is much easier to program changes into our subconscious. As
we age our subconscious imprinting becomes more fused or hot-wired. The
brain is wired in such a way that the synaptic pathways we regularly use
stay fused and the connections we do not use break apart. So as we age
the likelihood of creating change is greatly reduced. Another factor is
that as children we have a much greater accessibility to enthusiastic
emotions. As adults we may lose our child-like zestful enthusiasm that
allows us to more easily place new programming into our subconscious.
Nicholas
Boothman states “The infinite organizing power
of the subconscious mind can better serve you when it can see, hear, and
feel what you want, rather than being programmed with abstract, unspecific
verbal goals.”

For
example, programming ‘I want to complete my education, upgrade my
foreign language skills and open up my own specialty immigration services
company versus’‘I want to be rich’
When
our conscious mind and our subconscious mind are aligned we are congruent
and resonant and we accomplish a lot more. Your actions and your programming
are running in the same direction and you are not at cross purposes. Your
short term actions support your long term desires.

”Happiness
is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
-Mahatma Gandhi

How do We Get More
Energy to Do all the Things We Want to Do in Life?
In order to
maximize our energy we must align ourselves with the basic tenets of energy.
It is like trying to become a better fisherman by learning the best techniques
for fishing. Most people assume they know the best techniques for maintaining
or renewing their energy reserves. The proof would seem to be in how well
you do at ‘energy’ fishing. A fisherman with a poor catch
realizes there may be better ways to fish. When we achieve a fatigue state
we may not feel motivated to learn how to be a better energy ‘fisherman’.
We do not achieve a greater understanding of our lack of energy by trying
to understand our fatigue better. Rather, we must actually look away from
the fatigue and search for its cause and not the result.
Dr.
Wayne Dyer’s ‘The Power of Intention’
(available
online through Amazon.com) reveals several keys to energy and how
to create more energy in our lives.
Become conscious of your thoughts.
Our thoughts become our path. Louise Hay has also stated that ‘all
of your words are affirmations because your words become your life’.
To change who you are change your thoughts and your words.
Make meditation or quiet time a regular practice
in your life. We require healing time even if it is for
a very short time everyday. Some people call it ‘hammock time’.
Just sit back and think about, nothing. If you can control your ‘self
talk’, the internal dialogue that Carlos Castaneda speaks of, you
can control the random thoughts which cause anger, stress, fatigue, sadness
and allow more of the happy, loving, joyful, satisfied thoughts that add
pleasure to your life.
Become conscious of the foods you eat and eat a
balanced diet. A balanced diet high in fiber, fruits,
vegetables, healthy oils and lean protein is best for energizing your
body. Reducing any toxic foods or products in our diet allows our bodies
to more effectively deal with environmental pollutants.
Retreat from low energy substances. Alcohol, tobacco and
recreational drugs lower your body’s energy level. Any depressant
will reduce your energy.
Become aware of the energy level in your life and
home environment. Constant listening to harsh repetitive
pounding music will weaken you. Our bodies have their own rhythm. When
we introduce sounds or other input we alter our existing energy flow.
While we may at first feel enlivened with certain stimulus it will inevitably
wear us down. Television is another way we wear our energy levels down.
When we reduce our exposure to TV we open up time to rest, relax and wind
down. The extra time is conducive to participating in hobbies, music,
conversation and other social activities. Make your TV watching selective
and try TV free weeks.
One of the
best ways to create more energy in our lives is to reduce the amount of
resistance in our lives. The old saying that what we resist will persist
is very true. Life is about acceptance and when we choose not to accept
we then choose to resist. Resistance, just like in electrical circuits,
uses up a lot of our energy. Reduce resistance and increase energy.
Unmanaged stress also reduces our energy. Stress reduction is very important
to our health. Living with unmanaged stress ages us, negatively affects
our Immune Response and reduces our energy. Begin your stress reduction
plan by attempting to remove small sources of daily stress in your life.

The
Power of Resonance
Our world sends us
messages every day that we must be a certain way in order to fulfill a
certain life expectation. When our lives are filled with these expectations
we cease to have free choice in our lives. Resonance seeks to re-empower
the playful, energizing and life-enhancing qualities which through time
are slowly replaced with work, responsibility and duty. We can re-vitalize
ourselves when we again view the world as it really is, an amazing once-in-this-lifetime
opportunity, filled with exciting possibilities.
What do Pierce Brosnan,
Pavarotti, Bill Clinton and Jay Leno have in common?
They have learned
the secrets of ‘Speaking in Resonance’. Whether self taught
or professionally trained, they have become Master Communicators. You
too can learn the secrets of these communication superstars.
Arthur
Samuel Joseph is a voice and life coach to stars such as Pierce
Brosnan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anthony Robbins and many others. "Arthur
Joseph started as a teacher of mine many years ago. Over these years,
he has become a good friend whose teachings of Vocal Awareness have been
a constant in my life. He enlightens with compassion and understanding
of the human spirit and above all else, it works." -Pierce Brosnan,
Actor
Vocal awareness
addresses the congruity of our bodies and the message we send to others
and to our own subconscious.
“Research has shown that in any face-to-face spoken communication,
only 8 percent of the impact on the listener comes from the words used,
37 percent comes from the tone of the voice, and the remaining 55 percent
from body language. To have true Vocal Power, you must make a strong impact
on your listener on all three of these levels simultaneously.”
One of the
major tenants of Vocal Power is the bringing to conscious awareness of
our body habits. When body language is consciously aligned with a chosen
persona, our presence will be perceived as authentic, commanding and relaxed.
Do we fidget, avert our eyes, have poor posture, slouch, or other mannerisms
which detract from our personae?
Walking or
sitting in stature involves feeling like your best self and it need not
be a foreign or rigid position for us. Rather “imagine a sensation,
like the pull of a thread, lifting us up through the top of our heads.
Sitting in this manner helps us to breathe freely. Remain conscious of
our Self, and lift our upper torsos. It opens, releases, settles and balances
us”. When we are in this position we capture our stature. In this
space we are more able to be mindful and in the moment. In this state
we are more likely to hold eye contact and speak clearly and more slowly.
Rushed speech detracts from our message. A major Vocal Power concept is
that we must breathe before we speak to allow for a clear, powerful communication.
